Observations From the Back Row: 7-21-11

...

Everything we are told should bear some resemblance to what we see going on in reality!

“De Omnibus Dubitandum”

"I do not believe in the innocence of global warming alarmists. They do not care about the environment, they just misuse it in their crusade, which aims at limiting our freedom and prosperity. - Czech President Vaclav Klaus

The Greens Just Love Us to Death
By Alan Caruba

The vote to end the $6 billion in subsidies to ethanol producers reminded me how much Greens love us all. Surely only love could inspire taking corn and turning it into moonshine, and then mixing it with gasoline. The result caused food riots in far off nations while raising the cost of a gallon of gas every time we fill up at the pump. The ethanol mandates actually reduced the mileage a gallon will provide…….the Environmental Protection Agency was established in 1970. Its first act was to ban DDT and the result of that has been the needless death of millions…………Nor have Greens given up on the Endangered Species Act which has not truly saved any species in the course of spending billions to protect, for example, a spotted owl that needed no protection whatever or gray wolves that were doing quite well in Canada and Mexico when not wandering across our borders. What the ESA did accomplish, however, was to thwart all manner of development, whether it was a new hospital or the irrigation of farms rumored to grow crops people wanted to eat. The latest proposed use of the ESA is to shut down one of the most productive oil reserves in the U.S. to protect a lizard!

Alarmism a danger to democracy: Vaclav Klaus
Mr Klaus arrives in Australia today to talk on climate change in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in a tour organised by the Institute of Public Affairs......."I don't want to make cheap comparisons of their ideology with communism, but I do see many similarities . . . It is a new variant for the activist political Left, and I spent all my life fighting such a political thinking because I lived in such a political system." Mr Klaus fears the climate change debate is leading to the politicisation of science. And he is amazed at the comment by activist Clive Hamilton that climate change may demand "the suspension of democratic processes". "We have heard many times in the past, especially in the tragic moments of the 20th century, words like 'suspension of democratic processes' in the name of 'higher values, goals, ideas'." Communism was a typical example, he said. "We have to insist there is no trade-off between democracy and concrete goals."

My Take - It isn’t always possible, but I try to create a theme in my daily posts. Recently the most recurring theme is the underlying goals of the green movement. Unlike others who strive for political leadership, Mr. Klaus has been vocal from the very beginning about Anthropogenic Global Climate initiatives. He has faced the slings and arrows of outraged greenies, including those greenies in disguise, who are like Clark Kent, lead a double life as journalists; and of course, undercover greenies portraying themselves as politicos; which include bureaucrats.

I've just learned that there is gambling going on here!  I'm shocked!

The important point here is that it has been obvious from the beginning that Global Warming was a gigantic, expensive hoax perpetrated on the world for political purposes. Anyone in the public arena that all of a sudden claims that they “think” they “may” have been “wrong” about global warming is corrupt, lying, cowardly or stupid. Either or each of those qualities is disqualifying.  Mimicking Claude Raines in Casablanca.....they have just now learned that AGW is a hoax.....and they're shocked.

The next article is here for the links...please follow them. I have been watching and storing articles on LOST for years, which has been around since before the Reagan administration. A treaty that Reagan stopped. The 1995 version of the treaty, which Clinton, Bush and of all people, Condoleezza Rice supported, contained provisions that would allow the International Seabed Authority to alter the treaty to attain their goals without permission of the signatories. It also allowed them to force countries to stop pouring their “dirty” rivers into their “clean” ocean. In other words if there was something they didn’t like in some river’s water they could force you to stop whatever was causing the runoff....no matter how minute. This arbitrary power would be transferred to the most incompetent and corrupt organization the world has ever know. The U.N.!

Get LOST! Kerry to push UN control of the seas
Sen. John Kerry said yesterday that he wants the Senate to ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) — i.e., United Nations governance of the sea and its resources.  In an interview with Environment and Energy Daily, Kerry said “”Personally I would hope [to move the treaty]; it’s long overdue. But we need to take a look at where we are.”

But LOST should remain so. Click for Cato Institute and Heritage Foundation resources on LOST.

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes, and ships, and sealing wax -
Of cabbages and kings,
And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings."
