Australian Government To Axe $5 Billion Of Climate Funding
German Government Falsifies IPCC Summary On Climate Policy
The fallout from the new government’s budget is still being seen in Australia, but it is already obvious that climate change is a loser when it comes to funding. The funding for all government programs related to climate change is set to shrink at an alarming rate, going from $5.75 billion this year to a scant $500 million in the next four years. The outlook is bleak from the standpoint of scientists and researchers in Australia, many of whom will probably leave the country in order to find work elsewhere. --Lydia Bradbury, Liberty Voice, 16 May 2014

The UN’s climate report has debunked Germany’s green energy subsidies as useless. No one has noticed though. That’s because the government has crudely falsified the official summary. --Daniel Wetzel, Welt am Sonntag, 18 May 2014

The Energy and Resources Institute in India (TERI) has published energy policy recommendations for India’s newly elected government, calling for a reinvigorated drive to deploy solar. The non-profit research organisation, whose CEO, Dr R.K Pachauri, is also chairman for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), called for “leap-frog” changes to policy. Financially the report aims not only to suggest “special incentives for green energy.” --Lucy Woods, --PV Tech News, 13 May 2014

Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. will seek planning approval this month for a shale-gas exploration well in northern England, a “milestone” in its efforts to bring the technology to the U.K. The explorer will apply to drill, hydraulically fracture and test the flow of natural gas at as many as four exploration wells at its Preston New Road site, with a decision by Lancashire County Council expected within 16 weeks, the Lichfield, U.K.-based company said today in an e-mailed statement. It will apply a few weeks later for its Roseacre Wood site, the company said. “This application could be a really important milestone for Lancashire and the U.K.,” Chief Executive Officer Francis Egan said. --Nidaa Bakhsh, Bloomberg, 19 May 2014
