President Oprah’s Pseudoscience

Philip H. DeVoe January 9, 2018 4:00 AM @PhilipDeVoe

In June 22, 2011, James Arthur Ray was found guilty of negligent homicide after three attendees of his “Spiritual Warrior” retreat died. That only three died — 18 others were injured — is nothing short of a miracle: In what Ray called a traditional Native American sweat-lodge ceremony, participants were first subjected to 36 hours of fasting in the Arizona desert, with nothing but a sleeping bag for company, and then required to participate in a ritual inside a 200-degree lodge.

Ray called this a “heat endurance” exercise, but a better description would be a $10,000 life-threatening scam. Twice in 2006, Ray was a guest of the Oprah Winfrey show. Twice, she endorsed his outré New Age thinking.

In an interview with The Verge, the mother of retreat victim Kirby Brown revealed that Ray’s appearance on Oprah helped quell concerns her daughter felt about becoming a follower of Ray’s methods. If Oprah endorsed it, her daughter assumed, it must be safe. Alas, it seems the opposite is true. If Oprah endorses it, odds are it’s pseudoscience...........Read more

My Take - This is just one more example of the desperation of the left.   How much of her clabber will the nation tolerate?

She's the one who promoted Dr. Oz, who stands against genetically modified foods, has become a laughingstock in medical and scientific circles, who like his wife, "believed fervently in New Age approaches like homeopathic remedies and meditation".  Oz, who has a trademarked the name "America's Doctor"  has constantly promoted strange health practises, even promoting a "Brazilian spirit medium and well-known huckster ”John of God.”'  It also appears he opposes vaccinations, just like another junk science celebrity, former Playboy model, Jenny McCarthy.

McCarthy has led a national crusade against vaccinations with blatantly false claims.  Oprah promoted her on one of her shows and from there she made it to other prominent TV shows reaching an estimated 15 to 20 million people promoting a now discredited British doctor Andrew Wakefield, who has now had his medical license suspended for his fraudulent "science".  How many have been made sick or even died as a result? Of course, according to her she has a degree in science from Google.

As for Dr. Phil - another one of Oprah's proteges whose practises have been seriously questioned.   Of course being "questioned" isn't the same as being condemned, but I've thought he was a loon for years, and yet people are clamoring for her to resolve the nations problems.   Did I mention I thought a substantially large number of people in this country are stupid?

However - one thing I do think - Oprah's a loon, but she's not a stupid loon, and having a show where you control all that's happening, isn't the same a facing real life, real reporters, real political combatants and adversaries.  People who are hard nosed and unrelenting.  It's like comparing military boot camp with actual combat.  It just ain't the same!

Here's my prediction for 2018 - Even with her ego - she has to understand she's a toxic candidate, and she's not going to run!
